Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) is an American aerospace and aviation manufacturing business that operates in the areas of space transportation, space operations, and satellite communications. In 2002, Elon Musk created SpaceX with the aim of making space travel cheaper so that people may live on Mars.
By the accomplishments of SpaceX, we can say that they have successfully launched, orbit, and recovered a spacecraft for the first time in history, have sent a spacecraft to the International Space Station for the first time in history, and have made it possible for a private company to perform the first vertical take-off and vertical propulsive landing in history (SpaceX Crew Dragon Demo-2 in 2020). Furthermore, SpaceX has conducted, and repeated 100 flights on the Falcon 9 rocket series.
Government-driven space exploration initiatives are increasingly being replaced by programs funded by businesses and private companies, such as SpaceX, which has a good track record in receiving contracts from the government, especially from NASA and the U.S Department of Defense.
The technology developed by SpaceX for NASA has earned the firm a showcase and real supply contracts for the International Space Station (ISS). Falcon 9 is also approved for military U.S. payloads launched by United Launch Alliance's (ULA) Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) family of rockets. While SpaceX's flight manifest has roughly 100 flights, they are all for over $12 billion in contract value as of Q1 of 2021.
SpaceX's satellite-based Internet service, which is also seen as the biggest driver of the company’s valuation, will be leaving beta testing in October 2021. It is expected to begin producing revenue this year. It now has over 10,000 users globally.
Additionally, we anticipate that the number of launches conducted by SpaceX will increase this year, and overall revenue will rise to approximately $1.6 billion. Another way to look at it is that new opportunities like space travel and point-to-point transport of passengers across the globe will help boost the company's income in the mid to long term.
In a more recent development, (This was just disclosed by SpaceX), they have won a significant NASA contract. The award of a $50 million contract puts SpaceX in charge of studying black holes and neutron stars to an unprecedented degree, using the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The official mission of the IXPE Mission will be carried out in 2021.
